CCSP III: Emergency Procedures

This Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® (CCSP®) seminar is the third in a series of four at Life West.  It is open to all DCs as an individual seminar or part of the full series.

Overview: This 12.5 hour course will provide Doctors of Chiropractic with current information concerning the evaluation and management of serious spinal and physical injury and illness related to athletics.

Hour Topic
1 Review the duties of a team physician related to the urgent care of the seriously injured athlete
2 Patient management using primary assessment techniques and skills
3 Practical skills workshop on applications of primary assessment skills
4 Airway management, assessment, and maintenance (O2/Oral airway selection and applications)
5 Shock defined including recognition and care interventions
6 Secondary assessment of the injured individual
7 Practical workshop for the application of secondary assessment skills
8 Concepts of on the field treatment of the spine injured athlete
9 Practical workshop regarding log rolling and the selection and applications of hard cervical spine collar applications
10 Discussion of universal precautions and blood borne pathogen best practices
11 Synthesis of the case studies including the management of serious spinal trauma with backboard skills
12 Synthesis of the case management that includes care pathways of the initial assessment, secondary assessment and airway management
13 (30 minutes) Hour twelve continued
